Interview with Bert Martinez: “Remember, You Were Created To Succeed!”
Thanks for the interview! Please introduce yourself.
I’m Bert Martinez, I was Born in Havana, Cuba, during the missile crisis, October 1962.
Why did you decide to move to the US?
My parents felt that Cuba was changing in negative way and that our personal liberties would be in danger of being taken away.
Did you have the chance to gain some US-related experience before you moved here?
No. After Cuba we lived in Spain.
How did your friends react when you told them that you were leaving home country?
I was very young (a year old) but in general the Cubans were divided into those who believed things were changing for the better and those that believe things were going to become very dark. For the most we got the support we needed.
Do you still have connections to your home country? Do you travel there occasionally?
We do have family there and I’m made plans to visit for the first time in 48 years.
How were the first months in the US, where there any problems, what went well?
The first months were fairly smooth, the US government was very supportive they help our family to get settled, I remember my entire family living together, I mean aunts, uncles, cousins we share a home in Houston. Then as each family obtain jobs we settled in different parts of Houston.
What did help you to settle down?
The thing that help us all to acclimate faster is we got involved with the community, many immigrants then to gravitate to their own culture because it’s easier and that makes the transition so much slower.
How would you rate your decision in retrospect?
I’m very grateful to my parents for having the courage to come to the US. The opportunities here, in the US, are limitless. It was truly an inspired decision for our families to come to settle here versus Spain. For many years my mother raised us 3 boys alone so I have a sweet spot for ALL single parents.
Do you have specific ideas for the coming year?
There a lot of challenges available today which means there a lot of opportunities too.
In 2012 I have several books in the works, Ready, Aim, Excel! It’s a very inspiration book with lots of amazing strategies to help people, that I co-wrote with Ken Blanchard, Dr. Sherry Buffington and a few other authors. It will be available everywhere and being released in January by Expert Insights Publishing, the demand for the book is incredible already.
I’m also involved in a new TV show that will focus on saving struggling businesses. I’m excited because I believe we’ll be able to save thousands of businesses and impact millions of people. This TV project was inspired by the work we do at http://www.doublingsales.com/ were we teach business owners how to grow their business from zero to 1 million dollars. It’s free to join.
I also have a few projects in the works with my dear friend Dr Joe Vitale the movie star from The Secret, to help people over come limiting beliefs.
